Chennai, Feb 14: A 30-year-old software engineer was knocked off her scooter, attacked on the head with an iron rod by a man in Arasankazhani, just 2 km from the IT Corridor, on Tuesday. The attacker fled away from the spot with her gold chain, cellphone and two-wheeler leaving the woman behind with multiple facial fractures.
P Lavanya Janath, who works at Newt Global in Navalur, was found in an unconscious state by a passerby near bushes on the Thalambur-Perumbakkam road around 4 AM, approximately two hours after she was attacked.
Janath, a native of Vijaywada, is in the hospital in a critical condition. She lived in a rented house in Thalambur and was attacked after she left her company on Rajiv Gandhi Salai after her shift at 2 AM.
The attack has marked a high point in the recent spurt in violent crime in the city. Earlier in 2016, Uma Maheshwari, a 24-year-old employee of TCS in Siruseri, was raped and killed by three migrant workers.
