Many adaptations of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel ‘Devdas’ have been attempted by filmmakers, but none like Sudhir Mishra‘s, Daas Dev, the trailer of which was unveiled today. The movie depicts a love story in the times of power politics, and is quite different from the earlier two adaptations of the famous classic narrative —Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Devdas and Anurag Kashyap‘s Dev D. In fact, the trailer showcases a reverse story of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee’s Devdas–a story where the protagonist Dev, escapes the alcohol addiction and dynastic ambitions of his family, where Paro does not stay confined in her rich husband’s palatial house and where Chandni, surprises us with myriad shades to her character.

Filmmaker, Sudhir Mishra, who is known for his unconventional films, has struck gold yet again with this hard hitting tale. In a media statement, the filmmaker had said, “Like I said earlier, we are in the times of bullshit and that’s where love stands today. Trailers of films are the first impressions for the audiences to judge whether they want to watch the film or not. In Daas Dev’s trailer, my endeavour was to make it very clear that if anyone is looking to come for some mush or with due respect to Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s masterpiece Devdas, then this film is not for you my friend.” Take a look at the trailer below :

This fierce story of politics, power struggle and broken hearts, is set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh. The film stars Rahul Bhat as Dev, Richa Chadha as Paro and Aditi Rao Hydari as Chandni in the lead. Mukkabaaz actor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Anurag Kashyap and Dalip Tahil are also playing key roles in the film. The movie is slated to release on March 23, 2018.
