Union Minister of State for Shipping Pon. Radhakrishnan visited Cochin Shipyard on Wednesday to take stock of the situation on board Sagar Bhusan, the ONGC Rig where five workers were killed in an explosion on Tuesday.

He appreciated the efforts taken by the Shipyard in reaching out to the families of the deceased by promptly announcing ex-gratia compensation to their kith and kin.

The Minister also visited the hospital where injured workers were admitted. Later Mr Radhakrishnan also met the representatives of workers unions and assured all possible help to affected families.

The Minister also instructed the Shipyard management to conduct a thorough investigation and find out the root cause of the incident and report the details to the Ministry of Shipping.

He also asked the management to provide employment to immediate dependent member of each deceased.
