South Indian actress, Priya Prakash Varrier‘s, who’s making her big screen debut in an upcoming Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love, expressions have taken the internet by storm and brought her overnight stardom after the video from the film went viral, where she is seen winking, smiling and flirting with her classmate. However, the actress is now in legal trouble.
According to a report in CNN News18, a group of Muslim men has filed a complaint against the actor and makers of song – Manikya Malarayi Poovi from the Malayalam movie Oru Adaar Love at the Falaknuma Police Station in Hyderabad, on Wednesday. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Falaknuma) Syed Faiyaz confirmed the news and said in a statement, “We have received a complaint from a few men that the viral song from the upcoming Oru Adaar Love movie has hurt Muslim sentiments,” adding that, “They have not submitted video proof yet, and we have asked them to provide it. No First Information Report has been registered yet.”
One of the complainants, Muqeeth Khan said that the video insults Prophet Mohammad. In a statement to Scroll.in, he said, “After listening to the song, I went for the translation of the lyrics. The song is about the love story of the Prophet Mohammad and his first wife.” Khan further said that teenagers are seen romancing while the name of the prophet is taken in the background score, adding that he has nothing against the movie, the actor or the song itself but he had filed a complaint in an attempt to exercise his freedom of speech. Written and helmed by Omar Lulu and bankrolled by Ousepachan Vaalakuzhy under the banner of Ousepachan Movie House, Priya Prakash’s debut film is slated to hit theatres on Eid at the end of June. Speaking about the case booked against the makers for the song, director Lulu said, “People around the country, or rather around the world, are loving it. But there has been some opposition from some old Muslims in the community. They feel that a love song that is about the Prophet Muhammad and his wife in a film is insulting to Islam.
