Delhi traders observe ‘My Valentine-My Shop’ Day

New Delhi, February 14

The traders’ associations in Delhi observed February 14 as ‘My Valentine-My Shop’ Day against the ongoing sealing drive in the city, to tell the authorities that they love their shops the most.

“It is unfortunate that without realising the ground realties, the sealing operations are being intensified in Delhi. We are forced to intensify our agitation in the coming days,” said Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

Traders from the city staged demonstration outside the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) with their mouths covered with black strips. They also presented roses to people passing through and also placed roses at the gate of MCD headquarters.

“We urge both the Delhi government and the Centre to take cognisance of the seriousness of the issue and bring either an Ordinance or a Bill in the Legislative Assembly or in Parliament to protect Delhi trade,” Khandelwal added.

The traders will also hold a rally on February 15 at Chandini Chowk, Ghantagar. Traders from more than 1,500 trade associations across Delhi are expected to take part in the rally and will demand an Ordinance to prevent sealing in the city.

Earlier this month, the traders had gone on 48-hour trade bandh against the sealing drive.
