Belagavi: Call it negligence or an effort to conceal the shortfall, four students of separate schools in north India continue to get attendance in 7th and 8th class in
Belagavi. These students were enrolled in
Government School No. 9 in Tilakwadi and relocated after the end of the academic year.
The students in question are Sandhya and Rakhi Mishra,
SSLC students in Delhi, Sikandar Yadav, a class 7 student in
Bihar and Nikesh Sahani who studies in
Uttar Pradesh.
Their families had come to Belagavi in search of work and enrolled their wards in the government school in Tilakwadi. After the academic year ended, parents of these two girls and two boys sent them to their native places. They had sought
transfer certificates, but the school authorities allegedly did not respond positively.
Many a times, the parents followed-up with the headmaster but in vain. After a complaint with
Childline, officials visited the school in Belagavi and to their surprise came to know that the students were also marked “appeared for examination”. The officials took the teachers concerned to task and started further action.
Amit Mishra, one of the parents, said: I visited the school for TC many times, but I was denied the certificate with the authorities citing various reasons. My wife and ward stay at my native place and the children study there. I also came to know that attendance of my kid is being recorded here. Worried, I filed a complaint in this regard,” he said.
Girish Jagajampi, cluster resource officer, said that the parents did not complete the procedure to get transfer certificate of their wards. “It is also the duty of the headmaster and class teacher to do the same. Over 15 students among 65 students have stopped going to the school in the past few months. It could be because the teachers want to show good attendance in muster roll. It will take some time to get the clear picture,” he said.
A B Pundalik, deputy director of public instructions, said that showcase notice has been served on the headmistress. “Action will be taken once we get the report from the cluster resource centre,” he said. S R Handur, the headmistress of school, was not available for comments.
