Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa will inaugurate three new taluks in Udupi district on Wednesday. The taluks are Byndoor, Brahmavar and Kaup.
Hitherto, Udupi district had three taluks — Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala. With the inauguration of the three new taluks, the number of taluks in the district will get doubled.
While Byndoor is being carved out of Kundapur taluk, Udupi taluk will get tri-furcated with the creation of Brahmavar and Kaup taluks, both located about 15 km north and South from here, respectively.
Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, said that Mr. Thimmappa woud inaugurate the new Byndoor taluk in Byndoor at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. He will inaugurate the Brahmavar taluk at 12.30 p.m. and the Kaup taluk at 3 p.m.
Hebri taluk
Asked what happened to the proposal of creating Hebri taluk out of the present Karkala taluk, for which there were demands and protests, Mr. Madhwaraj ducked the question.
He said that foundation stone would be laid for works worth ₹ 10 crore in Udupi Assembly Constituency on February 15.
As many as 575 persons without sites and houses would be provided with sites through a lottery at Herga village on February 27.
The beneficiaries would be given token numbers and sites would be distributed to them on the spot in a transparent manner through lottery so that they do not complain of favouritism in the distribution of location of sites.
He would also inspect the progress of work in the construction of Indira Canteens in Manipal and Udupi on the same day.
Both these Indira Canteens will start functioning on March 15, Mr. Madhwaraj said.
