MADURAI
Air Intelligence Unit of Customs Department seized ₹6.5 lakh-worth foreign currency notes – US dollars, euros and riyals – at Madurai airport and detained two persons in this connection on Tuesday.
Customs sources said the US dollars and the euros were seized from one Sathakathullah of Ramanathapuram and the Saudi Riyals from Saleem of Madurai.
Acting on specific intelligence input, the officials checked the duo, who had boarded a SriLankan Airlines flight bound to Colombo, and found them in possession of the foreign currencies.
They have been detained for questioning.
