The Union Government has increased reservation in Government jobs for differently abled from three percent to four percent. Similarly the reservation for them in the educational institutes as been hiked to five percent from three percent, said the Union Minister for Social justice and empowerment, Thaawarchand Gehlot while speaking in a ceremony organised to mark inauguration of a new building of special education and research department at National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) here on Monday. The building was constructed with a budget of `8.76 Crores.
Gehlot hoped that the new building would provide better facilities to the students and they would be able to showcase their talent in a better way. The Union Minister said that the Government has modernised all NIEPVD institutes and set up 18 Braille presses.
Speaking on the occasion, the State Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the officials of the institute can inform him directly about any problem of the disabled. He said that an underpass would be constructed for visually challenged in the institute. The CM suggested that the Post graduate courses of the institute can be affiliated with Dehradun based university provided there is no technical issue.
The CM reiterated the commitment of his Government for welfare of the differently abled. The officers and employees of the institute were also felicitated on the occasion.
The programme was attended by Social Welfare and Transport Minister Yashpal Arya, State Minister for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat, State Minister for women empowerment and child development Rekha Arya, joint secretary NIEPVD, Dolly Chakravarti and director Anuradha Dalmia.
