Mohan Bhagawat's comment on Army condemnable but does the opposition have the right to ask for his apology?
Mohan Bhagawat is perhaps the only RSS chief who has an urge to speak more. His speeches often create controversies. It's has also become a routine that every year his Dussehra speech is directly telecast on DD news channel. RSS might be a large organisation but I don't think it that it deserve national broadcast through state-owned media. I hold it as misuse of power by the NDA government.

Coming back to Bhargwat's controversial statements, earlier during the Bihar Assembly elections he made a controversial remark on reservation which affected BJP's prospects dearly.

Last Sunday, while addressing Sangh workers in Bihar's Muzaffarpur, Bhagawat said, "Ours is not a military organisation. But we have discipline like the military. If the country needs it and the Constitution permits… it takes six or seven months to prepare an Army… but swayamsevaks, if asked, can do it in three days… this is what we are capable of."

When critics pointed that it was an insult to the Indian Army, RSS gave a clarification. Manmohan Vaidya, in a statement said, "Bhagwatji had said that if situation arises and the Constitution permits, Indian Army would take 6 months to prepare the society where as Sangh swayamsevaks can be trained in 3 days, as swayamsevaks practice discipline regularly."

The point is very simple. When a clarification is issued, we call it damage control. A political clarification, in fact, manipulates the possible words to divert the meaning in the other direction causing less damage. However, I still find the clarification insulting to the Indian Army. Doesn't the clarification say that the Indian Army men require six-seven months of training to become soldiers while a swayasevak can be trained in just three days! Does it also not mean that soldiers before joining the Army should become RSS members?

Well, I agree that RSS members do commendable work during rescue missions particularly when a natural disaster strikes. They are definitely better than many organisations. However, they are still no match for a trained Indian Army soldier. Indian Army is a committed, disciplined, well trained, competent and dedicated professional institution. Thus, I feel that the RSS chief has perhaps rated his volunteers a bit too high, showing the Indian Army in poor light in the process. Thus, I thoroughly condemn his statement.

But do Rahul Gandhi and other anti-BJP parties have the right to condemn Bhagawat's comments. It is the same Congress party which termed surgical strikes by Indian Army as 'khoon ki dalaali'. It's the same Congress men who termed the Army chief as a 'street thug'. It's the Left-led political opportunists who are sympathisers of Pakistan as well as Kashmiri separatists, because of whom the Indian Army continues to bleed.

Thus, I also condemn Rahul Gandhi's selective condemnation. I also condemn the Left-led 'Bharat ki tukude gang' who are now showing fake appreciation for the Indian Army just to oppose the RSS and score some brownie points.
