A two-month old baby girl, who was administered 'Pentavalent' vaccination recently, died at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, on Monday night. However, doctors clarified that the death was due to pneumonia and not due to the vaccination, as alleged.
Close on the heels of the death of two babies due to alleged Pentavalent vaccination at Chindagiridoddi village in Malavalli taluk, one more death in a similar manner has been reported, causing anxiety.
The deceased baby is Namratha, daughter of Santosh and Hema couple of Hadli village, in Malavalli taluk. The baby was administered 'Pentavalent' vaccination on February 8.
However, District Health Officer Dr K Mohan ruled out the possibilities of Pentavalent vaccination being the cause of the death. Speaking to DH, he said, the baby was suffering from lung infection, while it was admitted to the hospital on Monday evening. As private hospitals denied treatment, the parents admitted the baby to MIMS. The X-ray report showed that the baby had 80% lung infection and the parents were informed that the chances of her survival were less. The baby succumbed on Monday night, he said.
Post mortem
As the parents did not allow the hospital authorities to conduct post-mortem, the body was handed over to them after getting an undertaking. Pentavalent is a vaccination that is given to babies across the country and does not cause death. There is no need for the parents to worry about its administration, he clarified.
