THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As per reports from some centres, it is said that DGP Jacob Thomas is all getting ready to quit from all his official responsibilities and launch a full-throttle battle against corruption.

This decision by him comes after the government rejected the explanation given by him, who is already under suspension. It is said that he is aiming for an uncompromising crusade against corruption by talking out openly about things without being afraid of anyone.

His letter to the Prime Minister seeking an appointment outside the country as he was done with all the bureaucracy was as a last resort.

The actions and decisions taken by Jacob Thomas in the 10 months while he served as the vigilance director had stolen the sleep of many, and kept them at the edge. Nevertheless, his decision on the Pattoor land deal was declared as wrong by the Kerala High Court and he was heavily criticised by the court for it.

But what his controversial speech at an event on the Anti-Corruption Day, in which he said that the law and order in the state is in utter shambles proved to be the last nail on the coffin. In his speech at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on December 9, 2017, he had referenced to the incident of Ockhi cyclone tragedy in connection with corruption. He was suspended as the IMG director as his speech triggered a controversy. And it was his explanation to this that the government had rejected saying that it was not satisfactory.

Chief secretary Paul Antony had made clear in his charge sheet against Jacob Thomas that the statement by the latter that the law and order in the state has utterly failed is critical and does not deserve any mercy. And with this it has now become clear that there would be disciplinary action against Jacob Thomas.

Jacob Thomas had explained that the government did not clarify as to what measures they took in connection with the Ockhi tragedy and that his comment on the same was based on media reports. He also said that he had not spoken against any working of the government or about law and order in the state. He also rejected the government’s claim that he had said that the law and order in the state has failed.

Now the public is viewing the entire episode with eagerness to find out what further action the government would take against Jacob Thomas.

It also remains to be seen whether Jacob Thomas would quit before any action against him is taken.
