Internet and cable TV provider Hathway Cable’s broadband subscribers stood at 750,000 for the quarter ended December 31, 2017 (Q3FY18). This was an increase of 25% from 600,000 broadband subscribers in Q3FY17, and a rise of 7.14% from 700,000 broadband subscribers in the preceding quarter. The company added 50,000 new subscribers in the quarter.

The number of homes passed stood at 5 million for the quarter, an increase of 21.95% from 4.1 million in Q3FY17. The number of homes passed is the potential number of premises to which an operator has the capability to connect in a service area, but the premises may or may not be connected to the network.

Data consumption per subscriber stood at 100 GB for the month of December, up from 98 GB in October. The company said that 45% of its consumers have monthly data limits of 1,000 GB, and average speed in the quarter stood at 60 Mbps. Note that Hathway has increased the minimum data limits to 200 GB across the country. It is also providing all its yearly pay term consumers free 1 TB cloud storage through a partnership with Microsoft.

Financials

Hathway’s broadband segment reported revenues of Rs 138.6 crore during the quarter, an increase of 8.52% from Rs 127.8 crore in the same quarter last year, and up 5.71% from Rs 131.2 crore in the previous quarter. However, the average revenue per user (ARPU) for the company declined 3.1% year-on-year (YoY) from Rs 740 to Rs 717, and remained flat on a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis. Note that ARPU figures are excluding taxes.

EBITDA during the quarter stood at Rs 66 crore, a QoQ increase of 13% from Rs 58.6 crore. EBITDA margin stood at 46%. Net profit for the broadband segment stood at Rs 24 crore, a QoQ increase of 71% from Rs 14 crore.
