Single on Valentine’s Day In New Zealand

Single people matter too. Valentine’s Day isn’t all roses and chocolates for everyone, but there is no reason why it shouldn’t be awesome. Check out these great single person pursuits in New Zealand for the unattached on Valentine’s Day.

Wooing Tree – A little wine and a little food can go a long way, a really long way in one of New Zealand’s premier wine destinations. Woo yourself at Wooing Tree Vineyard in Central Otago with a wine tasting experience and a platter. Best thing is you don’t have to share with anyone and there are three other wineries in walking distance!

Go Wild – Reese Witherspoon showed how empowering a solo walk can be in her movie Wild. Why not tackle one of New Zealand’s Great Walks like the Kepler Track? A three day walk taking in lakeside forest and open tussock grasslands, with one day spent walking along the mountain tops above the bush line. There is limited cell coverage so there’s no danger of texting the ex.

Soak for one – A long hot soak for one, with no one around, under some of the clearest night skies in the world is the perfect way to block out the noise of Valentine’s Day. Omarama Hot Tubs fills your hot tub with fresh mountain spring water, the wood fire heats the water so all you have to do is relax.

Heart shaped box (for one) – Head to Schoc Chocolates in the Wairarapa and treat yourself to an entire box of handmade gourmet chocolates. Owner Murray Langham will take you through some of his creations like lavender salted caramel, honey cumin, pinot noir and tequila, lime and salt. Better get a few of that last one.

Take a punt – Nothing screams romance like a punt for one. Sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery of the Garden City in Christchurch. There won’t be any awkwardness with an unwanted proposal that often occur on these vessels, providing of course you don’t propose to your punter.

Walking on water – Motueka’s Saltwater Baths are a hidden gem. Built in 1930 these heritage pools may have been the first-ever infinity pool concept the world has ever seen. There’s something truly serene about this location and, if you pick your moment – high tide in the early morning or sunset – there’s a good chance that you’ll have it completely to yourself so you can practise your walking on water. Renew your soul and revitalise your body as you chill out in the saltwater of the Abel Tasman National Park and reflect on how empowering it is to be single and not caught up in the commercialism of Valentine’s Day.
