Fire broke out at Namphalon market at 2050 hours on 07 Feb 2018
A major fire broke out at Namphalon market at 2050 hours on 07 Feb 2018. The fire started from a fire cracker godown and such was the intensity of the fire that it engulfed other shops and godowns nearby.
Realising the gravity of the situation, 11 Assam Rifles, Moreh police, police commandos and the civil administration of Moreh swung into action immediately.
Commandant, 11 Assam Rifles helped in synchronising the efforts of the police, fire services, civil administration of Moreh and Myanmar Army which enabled timely move of two fire tenders from Moreh to Namphalon. Two water bowsers of 11 Assam Rifles were also stationed at Gate Number 2, to react to the eventuality of fire spreading towards Moreh.
The fire could be brought under control by 0230 hours after employment of 7-8 fire tenders from Myanmar and five fire tenders from India.

Fire tenders from Imphal and other areas were also requisitioned which finally arrived at Moreh at 0140 hours on 08 Feb 2018 and were immediately pressed into service.
As per reports, approximate 150 meters x 125 meters area of Namphalon market has been gutted down which includes 53 shops, 05 concrete houses and other small godowns. The fire was contained at a distance of approximate 60-70 meters from Gate Number 2 on Indian side.

On 08 Feb 2018, Colonel Zubin Bhatnagar, Officiating Commander, 26 Sector Assam Rifles visited the site, met CO 89 IR of Myanmar Army and assured of all assistance. CO 89 IR thanked Officiating Commander for the timely help provided by Assam Rifles and the civil administration of Moreh, India.
The fire incident at Namphalon market was a sad incident which has affected the livelihood of many people on both sides of the border but the timely help by Indian side at the hour of dire need has definitely strengthened the already existing mutual trust and friendly relations between both the nations.
