BJP leader and former Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang  on Sunday  urged  Governor SC Jamir to direct the State Government to hand over the Kunduli gangrape and suicide cases to the CBI.

In a letter to Jamir, Gamang stated that people and family members of the victim do not have faith on investigations being conducted by different State agencies to unearth the truth.

“There is a need of handing over the case to CBI. The Governor may direct the Odisha Government to hand over the Kunduli incident to CBI under Article 244 (1) of the Constitution,” he stated in the letter.

Gamang also requested the Governor to direct the State Government to submit detailed report on Kunduli incident from the day one to till date.

Maintaining law and order is the responsibility of State. The CBI cannot to take up the case on its own unless the Government comes forward in this regard.

Gamang further stated that the State Government should take steps to prevent incidents like Kunduli in the fifth schedule areas.
