EMagin, a specialist in OLED microdisplays, has attracted USD 10 million worth of investments from Apple, LG and Valve, Cnet reported, citing documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. EMagin said in the documents that it has entered into strategic agreements with “multiple Tier One consumer product companies” for the design, development and pass production of microdisplays for consumer head mounted devices.

The New-York company makes microdisplays used in the military, medical and industrial sectors, but has also started putting its focus on consumer headsets, getting attention from companies working with virtual and augmented reality.

The company's flagship product is a 2K display with a resolution of 2,048 by 2,048 pixels and a 70 percent fill factor, the percentage of each pixel that can be used to gather light. The investment was made in the form of a new stock issuance.

Apple and eMagin didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
