The number of Udyog Aadhaar Memoranda filed for enterprises in Ernakulam district has touched 10,065, and nearly 8,000 of them pertain to micro enterprises. A total of 2,186 memoranda submitted were for small enterprises, while 84 were for medium-sized enterprises, sources in the District Industries Centre (DIC) said.
The Aadhaar-based registration under the MSME Act 2006 is a simplified process for registration of enterprises that were introduced in the State in the second half of 2015.
DIC sources also said that the number of enterprises registered stood at 3,344 between April 1, 2017 and January 21, 2018.
As many as 2,633 of them were micro enterprises, while 686 were small enterprises, and 25 were medium-sized ones.
Interestingly, the services sector topped registrations in the district. As many as 422 enterprises were registered in the sector, while 151 enterprises registered were in textile and garment sectors. There were 142 enterprises in engineering - mechanical and fabrications segments. A total of 111 units were registered in the food sector, while 96 units registered belonged to the wood-based segment.
The investments in enterprises so far this year are worth over ₹100 crore. The enterprises have created jobs for 2,796 men and 1,619 women.
Meanwhile, the machinery expo organised by the Department of Industries and Commerce here in the second week of January saw over 35,000 visitors, of whom 20,000 were business visitors.
The expo was specifically aimed at micro, small and medium enterprises and generated orders to the tune of ₹50 crore. Of them, confirmed orders were worth ₹25 crore, DIC sources said.
