(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) A massive fire broke out in a black saloon car due to oil leak and short circuit in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain on Sunday morning.

Col Khamis Ibrahim Bulsali, deputy director of the UAQ civil defence department, said that the car suddenly caught fire for reasons still to be ascertained.

On being alerted of the blaze, the central operations room of the UAQ Police immediately dispatched traffic cops, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site.

The civil defence firefighters managed to put out the fire. No human casualties were reported in the blaze, which left the car completely charred, he said.

"The firefighters doused the flames using water and foam, and cooled down the car so that the fire did not start again."

Investigations are on to find out the reasons behind the fire, he stated. "The case has been referred to the legal authorities concerned for legal action."

A few days back, a saloon car and a four-wheel-drive were gutted in a fire in Salma and Azbah areas, respectively.

Official records show that several vehicles caught fire at different areas of the northern emirate in the summer months owning mostly to high temperature, as well as oil leak and short circuits.

Col Khamis called on drivers to carry out regular maintenance service and to check any possible fuel or oil leaks, which are mostly blamed for such fires.
