Modi in Oman Highlights: PM woos investors at business meet, visits temple in Muscat

On Monday, PM Modi attended the India-Oman Business Meet. He also visited a Shiva temple in Muscat. Here are the highlights:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with the Sultan of Oman on Monday as the two sides signed eight agreements, including pacts on cooperation in the field of defence, health and tourism.

Modi addressed the Indian diaspora at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Oman’s capital Muscat.

PM Modi attended a meeting with Omani CEOs at the India-Oman business meet. He visited the Shiva temple in Muscat and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque .

The Prime Minister also held meetings with the deputy prime ministers of Oman - Sayyid Fahad and Sayyid Asad.

This was the first prime ministerial visit to that Gulf nation in 10 years since the visit of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2008.

Here are the highlights:

2.08pm: This concludes PM Modi’s three-nation tour.

2.03pm: The Prime Minister visited the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, which is the biggest mosque in Oman. The mosque is said to have been built from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone sculpted by 200 craftsmen from India.

1.52pm: MEA tweets PM Modi performed Abhishekam at the Shiva temple in Muscat and interacted with the members of the Temple Management Committee.

1.20pm:

1.15pm: On Sunday, the Prime Minister had officially launched the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the first Hindu temple in the capital of the UAE.

1.08pm: PM Modi visits the Shiva Temple in Muscat and offers prayers.

The temple is located in the Matrah area of Old Muscat, near the Sultan’s Palace and was constructed by the merchant community from Gujarat around 125 years ago. It was subsequently renovated in 1999.

12.36pm: PM Modi meets with Sayyid Fahad bin Mahmood Al-Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers of Oman.

12.15pm: At the India-Oman Business Meet, Modi met with industry leaders of the Gulf and West Asia region and pitched India as an attractive destination to do business.

11.54am: In his meeting with Deputy PM HH Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said, PM Modi discussed intensification of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
