Tirupur: Two men stole a three-and-a-half sovereign gold chain from a 75-year-old woman in the city on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, R Nachammal of Sannathi street at Thirumurugan Poondi was going to her daughter’s petty shop in the same locality. Two unidentified men stopped her and warned her that chain-snatching cases were frequent in the road and asked her to remove her gold chain and keep it in her hands, police said. When Nachammal removed the chain, the duo took the chain and wrapped it in a piece of paper and returned the package, police said. After reaching her daughter’s shop, Nachammal checked the package and found the duo had replaced the original with an imitation chain.
The Anupparpalayam police have registered a case.TNN
