Vodafone Germany has completed the first stage of upgrades to its hybrid fibre-cable network, enabling nearly all 12.7 million households connected to the network to surf the internet at speeds of up to 200 Mbps. Of these households, 7.7 million now have access to internet speeds up to 400 Mbps, while 4.1 million Vodafone households can surf the internet at speeds up to 500 Mbps as a result of these upgrades.

Vodafone said it upgraded over 500,000 households with connections delivering internet speeds up to 500 Mbps in the last two weeks alone in cities such as Passau, Hassfurt, Nordhausen and Ingolstadt. The company said it is planning to upgrade its entire cable network to provide speeds of 1 Gbps by the end of 2020 at the latest. Cable customers that have already opted for Vodafone’s current 200 Mbps, 400 Mbps or 500 Mbps packages will automatically be able to benefit from these gigabit-upgrades upon request, said Vodafone.
