The Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers Association (TNGCTA) has urged the State Government to reconstitute the recently formed convener committee of the Bharathiar University.
In a release, the TNGCTA’s president T. Veeramani said the organisation disapproved of the composition of the committee, particularly the presence of a Syndicate member who was inducted during the tenure of the suspended vice-chancellor A. Ganapathi.
At a time when efforts were on to cleanse the system of corruption, the induction of the Syndicate member sent a wrong signal and was an aberration.
He also came down on the demand for inclusion of representatives of private, self-financed colleges in the committee saying, the objective of private colleges was commercialisation of education and therefore their presence would do little good. There was no need to include more members in the committee, as suggested by a few, but it was imperative to reconstitute the committee, he added.
