4 sacked NMC staffers attempt suicide in front of CM’s Nagpur house, arrested

Within three weeks of two persons committing suicide at the State Secretariat in south Mumbai, four dismissed employees of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) attempted suicide in front of the residence of CM Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur on Sunday. The police detained four dismissed NMC employees attempted to commit suicide by setting themselves on fire, in front of Fadnavis’ Nagpur residence. The police took all the four into their custody soon after one of them poured kerosene on his body and attempted to take his life. The three others were also planning to commit suicide in a similar fashion. The police said that the four persons — who had been dismissed from service in 2002 but were not taken back into service despite their repeated efforts to prevail up on the civic administration to condone their acts and reinstate them into the service — had attempted to take the extreme step.
