India vs South Africa: Rohit Sharma asks Kohli to go for DRS review, MS Dhoni overrules it and is right, watch video

In former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli has the best judge when it comes to calling for a review and no one can ever doubt it. With just one review allotted to the teams in ODIs, going for the ‘Decision Review System’ (DRS) and faltering can prove costly, but not with MSD behind the stumps. Dhoni has time and again has shown amazing judgement when going for review, and the latest example came during the Pink ODI at the Wanderers.

It was the 8th over of the South Africa innings. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a peach of a delivery to Hashim Amla as the ball came in sharply to the former’s bat. And even though skipper Kohli was convinced that the ball had clipped the inside edge of the bat on its way to keeper Dhoni, the former India skipper just smiled to signal to Kohli that there was no bat involved. Interestingly, as the fielders converged near Amla, Rohit was seen signaling to Kohli to take the DRS, Dhoni with a wry smile on his face shook his head to say that there was no edge.

To note, replays also showed there was no edge as the ball missed bat and hit the pad on the way to the keeper. Interestingly, Dhoni as the captain was not very fond of the Decision Review System and felt that it needed changes before becoming a permanent fixture in international games.

Meanwhile, now both the teams are gearing up for the 5th ODI tomorrow. The Proteas bounced back by winning the rain-affected and lightning-struck Pink ODI in Johannesburg by five wickets. India’s wrist-spinners versus South Africa’s batting line-up is still the key contest going ahead in this series.
