Pune: The rural police have appealed to industries in the
Chakan MIDC area to install CCTV cameras in a way that areas outside the manufacturing units also remain under surveillance.
This comes in the wake of the rising crime in the industrial hub. “During investigation of cases affecting industrial employees, we found that many companies don’t have adequate CCTV coverage of areas around their plants. We will ask them to install CCTV cameras that will cover areas outside their manufacturing plants as well,” Chakan police station inspector Manoj Yadav said.
A senior officer said one of the biggest challenges for the Chakan police station was inadequate staff strength.
A manager of a private company said they have raised their concerns with the police, but in vain. “If a dedicated police station can’t be set up, at least, additional police personnel can be deployed in the area. The Chakan Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area has become an unsafe place for industrial employees,” he said.
“Neither the police and nor the MIDC authorities are paying enough attention to it. Why will the multi-national companies plan future expansion here?” he added.
Federation of Chakan Industries (FCI) said the police should direct MIDC to install more CCTV cameras at the crucial junctions in the area.
MIDC officials, however, said covering 3,000 hectares area was not possible.
