A former sarpanch of Tatarpur village was shot dead by unidentified assailants near the National Highway 48 early on Sunday. A murder case has been registered by victim’s brother against the unknown persons at Bilaspur police station. As per the initial investigation, a property dispute is suspected to be the reason behind the crime.

Angry villagers blocked the highway in protest. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay (36), who was a property dealer by profession.

The victim’s family alleged that Sanjay was on a morning walk around 7 am when the incident took place. Around 8 am, Monu, an acquaintance of the victim’s family, informed them about the incident.

“He called me and informed that his brother was shot by someone and his body was lying a pool of blood near the highway on Kundli Manesar Palwal (KMP) road. Soon after the information, we rushed to spot and took him to a private hospital in Manesar where he died during the treatment,” Lakhpat, victim's brother said.

The family member also said Sanjay had done several property deals recently.

However, the police have not ruled out the property dispute angle behind the murder.

“Police team is gathering information and raids are on to nab the criminals. We will also ascertain the involvement if any known person of the deceased,” said  Ravinder Kumar, spokesperson Gurugram police.

After an autopsy, angry villagers took the body and blocked the National Highway for few hours and demanded immediate arrest of guilty.
