PUNE: The
airport authorities here are emphasizing on
frequent emergency response plan trainings to ensure all stakeholders are prepared to deal with situations such as
aircraft skidding on runways or a sudden tyre burst while landing.
“The training focuses on ways to deal with emergency and minimise its effects. It is also done to fix the duties and responsibilities of officials in different types of emergencies,” an official at the Pune airport said.
It was important to constantly brief the stakeholders, including
Airports Authority of India officials and
airline authorities, about the dos and don’ts during an emergency.
“We also brief them about plane crashes and bird-hits. Often, chaos follows an emergency. In such a scenario, each department and stakeholder should know what to do and stick to it. Once that happens, the rescue work can be executed without any hiccups,” the official said.
“After any emergency situation, the main focus is always on the passengers’ safety. One has to also ensure that operations at the airport become normal as soon as possible. An emergency is not just a sudden untoward incident but also events such as closure of runway due to a glitch and bad weather causing flight delays,” another official said.
