The minimum temperature in Punjab and Haryana increased modestly but cold conditions persisted in several parts on Sunday.
The temperature rose by up to three notches, but cold conditions have not abated in the two States, said a Met Department official.
In Punjab, Ludhiana registered a low of 8.3 degree Celsius, a notch above the normal. Patiala recorded a minimum temperature of 9 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Amritsar was at the normal level of 6.2 degrees.
Halwara and Faridkot recorded above normal minimum temperatures at 10.7 degree Celius and 9 degree Celsius respectively.
Gurdaspur recorded a low of 6.1 degrees while Adampur and Bathinda experienced cold conditions with the minimum temperature settling at 4.9 degree Celsius and 5 degrees respectively.
Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana recorded a low of 7.8 degrees.
In Haryana, Bhiwani registered a low of 11.3 degrees, two notches above the normal. Narnaul recorded a low of 8.8 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Rohtak settled at 10.6 degrees.
Among other places in Haryana, Ambala and Hisar registered a minimum of 8.1 degree Celsius each.
However, Karnal experienced a cold night at 6.5 degree Celsius.
According to the Met Department, light to moderate rainfall is expected in some parts of Punjab and Haryana in next 24 hours.
In hill State of Himachal Pradesh, capital Shimla recorded minimum temperature at 4.6 degree Celsius. Kalpa recorded a low of minus 2 degree Celsius, Manali saw a minimum of 1 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar settled at 2 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar shivered at 2.2 degree Celsius, Solan 3.5 degree Celsius, Una 4.8 degrees, Dharamshala 7 degrees and Nahan recorded 8.7 degree Celsius.
