The CBI has submitted before a Delhi High Court that cases of alleged Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) violation involving more than ₹5 crore can be referred by the government to the agency for a probe.
The submission has been made in connection with an FIR lodged by the Bureau last November alleging the role of aviation consultant Deepak Talwar, a non-government organisation linked to him and others in the suspected FCRA violation, said a CBI official.
“There is a notification under the Act to this effect. Several such cases have been referred for investigations in the past. Accordingly, we have filed our reply in the High Court,” he said.
Fund mismanagement
The case alleges improper use of foreign funds received under the CSR scheme, meant for educational and social activities in India. The Home Ministry had also conducted an inquiry into the alleged violations.
The fund was part of contributions of over ₹90 crore received between 2012-13 and 2015-16 from Europe’s missile maker MBDA and Airbus group, says the FIR.
