PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation has installed the first girder on two pillars at Kharalwadi.

The foot over bridge (FOB) near Kharalwadi on the Pune-Mumbai highway will not be demolished as MahaMetro will construct another elevation to the pillars.

However, the 61m long FOB near the Vallabhnagar ST bus depot will be dismantled to enable the construction of the Metro station, which will be completed by December 2019 at a cost of Rs50 crore. At present, pits are being dug along the highway.

"We will build another bridge near the station, which will replace the existing bridge," said MahaMetro chief Brijesh Dixit.

Guardian minister Girish Bapat had laid the foundation stone for this station on January 18. The first phase will be completed by the end of 2020, and the Metro will be extended to Nigdi in the second phase, Bapat said.
