Partap Bajwa elected Judo Federation president

Chandigarh: Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Partap Singh Bajwa has been elected chief of the Judo Federation of India. Bajwa said he would work hard in taking the sport to every nook and corner of the country. He stressed on devising new methods to increase participation of our nation in international tournaments.

GMCH held 25th annual athletic meet

Chandigarh: The 25th annual athletic meet of Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) was declared open on Saturday and concluded at the Sports Complex, Sector 46 on Sunday. The chief guest for the valedictory cum prize distribution ceremony was Yashpal Sharma, former Indian cricketer. The best athlete among boys went to Sahil Bhardwaj of 2015 BSc. batch while best athlete among girls went to Geetika of 2014 batch. The best athlete among faculty went to community medicine department. Prof BS Chavan, Director Principal of GMCH — 32 had inaugurated the meet on Saturday. During the two-day event, students, faculty and staff participated in a variety of track and field events. Prizes were also given for various indoor games which were held during the past 2 weeks.

Free chest, sleep diseases camp held

Zirakpur: Over 30 patients were examined during a chest and sleep diseases camp at Alchemist Wellness Centre. Patients with the complaints of chest pain, cough, asthma, excessive snoring and chest related problems were examined by Dr. Vishal Sharma, consultant-pulmonology at Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula. Dr Vishal said that if you are having cough and it doesn’t go away, don’t ignore it. You may be suffering from chest infection.” During the camp, free chest consultation and other investigations like pulmonary function test, sleep disorder screening, CPAP BIPAP machine assessment were also provided free to the patients.

CME to empower rural medical officers held

Chandigarh: As many as 300 doctors across North India participated in Cardiopulse 2018 — an annual CME which was organised by Max Hospital, Mohali in collaboration with Association of Rural Medical Officers, Punjab and IMA Punjab at a hotel here. The CME deliberated on the latest developments in the field of various heart ailments including heart attacks, heart failure, rhythm disorders which are assuming epidemic proportions. The various new modalities and treatments to tackle these menace also discussed.Among others, Dr KK Talwar, former PGI director and  present chairman cardiac sciences at Max, Dr Sudheer Saxena, director Max among others attended the CME.

AIFSFTI delegation met AICTE member secy

Mohali: A delegation of All India Federation of Self Financing Technical Institutions (AIFSFTI) under the leadership of its president Anshu Kataria met with Prof. Alok Prakash Mittal, Member Secretary, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The Federation thanked AICTE for implementing Supreme Court decision on Orissa lift Irrigation Corp. Ltd case. Kataria said that AICTE should allow merging of the Technical Institutions of neighboring areas for the better utilization of the resources. He also welcomed the AICTE step for giving relaxation in the faculty ratio from 1:15 to 1:20 in Engineering & Technology.

BJYM organises community lunch

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) under the leadership of State president Gaurav Goel commemorated  the death anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay by organising a community lunch at Terrace Garden here. Goel said that Pandit Deendyal propagated the idea of ‘Ekantmanav vaad’ and advocated for the rights of the lower strata of the society. Those present on the occasion were national executive member Amit Rana, convenor Vikram Bawa among others.

Congress lashes out at BJP

Chandigarh: The city Congress president Pradeep Chhabra while addressing people in Behlana village here on Sunday said that since the BJP Government has come at the Centre, the villagers are worst affected. Before coming to power, big promises were  made by the MP of the city Kirron Kher, but she has forgotten the villages in the last 4 years, he said. Chhabra said, instead of increasing  the budget for the development of the villages, the BJP MP has not been able to get the amount given in the previous budget. The former Union Minister and ex-city MP Pawan Bansal was able to get extra budget from the Centre  for the development of villages, he added. Chhabra further said leaders of BJP from village Behlana,  Ghansham, Jiddi Singh and hundreds of other BJP workers  have joined the Congress due to  anti-public policies of the BJP led Centre.
