Heavy snowfall forecast at isolated places

The Uttarakhand meteorological centre has issued a warning as heavy snowfall is forecast at isolated places in higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts of the state on Monday. Hail is likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri and Nainital districts on the same day. According to the meteorological centre, snowfall is likely to occur in places at altitude of 2500 metres and above including Surkanda, Chakrata, Kedarnath, Rudraprayag, Auli, Pithoragarh and Dhanolti among others on Monday night and Tuesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to dip by few degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday.

In Dehradun, sunshine during morning hours followed by cloudy sky with mild winds was witnessed on Sunday.

The weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Monday is generally cloudy to overcast sky and light to moderate rain/snow at most places in the state. Weather forecast for Dehradun on Monday is generally cloudy sky and one or two spells of rain/thunder showers. Hail is also likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 20 degree Celsius and 10 degree Celsius respectively on Monday. Meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that a fresh western disturbance had affected northwest India from February 11 and could bring light to moderate rainfall at various parts of the state from Monday.

On Sunday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 27 degree Celsius, six notches above the normal, and 6.7 degree Celsius, one degree below the normal, respectively in Dehradun. In Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 24.7 degree Celsius, one notch above the normal, and 3.6 degree Celsius, four notches below the normal respectively.

 In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 15 degree Celsius, two notches above normal, and 4.4 degree Celsius two notches above the normal. In Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 16.2 degree Celsius and 6.3 degree Celsius respectively.
