Representatives from State planning department, experts from countries including Israel, United Kingdom and Afghanistan, from across India including representatives from Delhi university and other universities and stakeholders are expected to attend the two -day long workshop -Uttarakhand sustainable development festival being planned by the State Government along with other organisations in Champawat from February 23. The Champawat District Magistrate Ahmed Iqbal said this on Sunday. He said that the objective of this workshop is to discuss sustainable development in detail and draft a strategy for facilitating sustainable development with the stakeholders. The Champawat chief development officer Shailendra Singh Bisht said that the district administration is gearing up for the preparations for this workshop. The department officers have been assigned their works and have been directed to complete their works on time, he added. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat is also expected to attend the workshop.
State planning department has signed a memorandum of understanding with the various departments and private organisations for making this workshop successful. Tehri District Magistrate Sonika said that planning department has also signed MoU with two districts- Tehri in Garhwal and Champawat in Kumaon- for making this workshop successful. Senior officers of other districts of the state including DMs, CDOs and others have also been invited to attend the workshop. It should be mentioned here that it should be mentioned here that Champawat district comprises both plain areas and mountainous regions. While the industry and infrastructure is comparatively more developed in the plains, the same is lacking in the mountainous region. The district has important religious and tourism destinations like Devidhura among others. It also shares a border with Nepal. According to the officials, the workshop organisers found Champawat to be a suitable place for holding the event.
