Hubballi: The
prevention and detection of crime will be carried out in a more efficient way as the
Hubballi-Dharwad police commissionerate is installing 55 six megapixel
high-definition cameras in various parts of the twin cities. This is touted as the first-of-its kind initiative in the state. The cameras with night vision will have 4G connectivity, sources in the commissionerate said.
Police commissioner
M N Nagaraj told STOI that the cameras will have advanced features that will help in detecting crime. "All the features of the camera cannot be disclosed as it may help the offenders escape. However, the cameras will help police to a great extent," he said.
Sources said that the installation of the six megapixel cameras is a big step as the cities has only cameras with less than two megapixels. Though they are helping police in detecting the violation of traffic rules and other crimes, the new cameras will help in a big way. A total of 15 cameras are already in operation and the rest will be installed soon.
Deputy commissioner of police
B S Nemagoud said that the cameras will help monitor the movement of anti-social elements from a control room. "Apart from the installation of cameras, new equipment will also be installed at various parts of the cities to improve traffic and safety. Solar road studs and tubular cones are being purchased. Marking for roads and erection of signboards is also being carried out," the DCP said.
STOI is not disclosing information on the camera features and places where they will be installed in order to help police prevent crime. The twin cities have been witnessing several crimes and their detection is getting tougher though police are striving hard.
