Addressing the keynote address at World Government Summit on the theme: 'Technology for development, Dubai, PM Modi said, "It is a matter of pride for not only me but also the 125 Crore people of India that I have been called as the chief guest at the 6th edition of World Govt Summit."
Modi also highlighted the improvements in the realm of maternal mortality in India and aroud the world. He said," In last 25 years the maternal mortality went down by 1/3rd in India and 1/2 across the world.
He also voiced concern over massive global investment in missiles and bombs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today warned against the misuse of technology, saying it must be used as a means to development and not destruction.
"On the other side we are investing large portion of money, time and resources on missiles and bombs. We must use technology as a means to development, not destruction," he told the gathering, amid applause.
He also expressed concern over attempts by some people to radicalise the cyber space with the use of technology, in an apparent reference to its use by jihadists to recruit cadres.
Stressing the impact of innovation and technology, he said, technology has modified human behaviour. Innovation is leading to increasing demand. PM reiterated "Technology is changing at the speed of thoughts. Technology has empowered the common man."
We need to follow the six R s that stand for reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, redesign and re-manufacture, this will lead to rejoice meaning 'Anand', said Modi.
Earlier today, PM met business leaders from Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He spoke at length about the economic opportunities in India and the series of reforms undertaken in the last 3.5 years.
