NEW DELHI: In a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AAP supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal today said the ruling BJP was only interested in making the country's youth "sell pakoras".

Wading into the controversy over PM Modi's 'pakora' remark, Kejriwal claimed that while the AAP was empowering the youth and giving them jobs, the BJP was denying them education and jobs.

"Aam Aadmi Party ensures good education to the people and makes them doctors, engineers and lawyers. BJP's dream for India is - keep the people illiterate and make them sell 'pakoras'," the AAP chief tweeted.

Modi had said in an interview to a TV channel: "If a person sells 'pakodas' and takes home Rs 200 every evening, will it be considered employment or not?"

The attack againt the ruling party at Centre comes as AAP launched a 'Vikas Yatra' in every constituency in the national capital, to highlight the "good work" done by the Kejriwal government during its three years in power.

Kejriwal has on several occasions asserted that "health and education" are the top priorities of the AAP government and said that it has made significant improvements in both fields.

In December 2017, the Delhi CM had launched "Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojna" to enable underprivileged youth to receive coaching for competitive exams. Under this scheme, the Delhi government will fund 75 per cent of the coaching cost for students from SC/ST, minorities and other underprivileged sections of the society.

In contrast, the BJP-led NDA government has been facing criticism for rising unemployment and failure to deliver on its promises of job creation.
