Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Saturday asked party workers and leaders to gear up for the 2019 Parliament polls and stressed on strengthening the cadre so that victory of the candidates could be ensured. The party will, however, not contest bypolls to Gorakhpur and Phulpur parliamentary seats. Earlier too, the BSP did not contest byelections. Addressing party workers, leaders and office-bearers at BSP headquarters in Lucknow on Saturday, Mayawati said that they should all focus on strengthening the party base and include all members of the society so that the party could come up with an impressive show in the 2019 elections.

Taking a feedback on the deteriorating law and order, economic condition and social conflict, Mayawati said that the workers should communicate with the masses and make them aware about how her government had provided a fearless society in the state and hence they should support the party. The former UP Chief Minister said that the BJP had totally failed on the law and order front, facilitating employment to the youth, arresting rising prices, and to divert public attention, was spreading communal hatred through tiranga yatra, protecting cows, graveyards and other religious or caste-based issues. She said that demonetisation and introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) had paralysed economic development and the business community was the worst hit. Mayawati also attacked the Prime Minister claiming that instead of making honest efforts to facilitate jobs to youths, he and his party leaders were asking them to sell ‘pakoras’ to make themselves self-reliant. The BSP chief alleged that BJP governments both at the Centre and the state had cheated people by selling them dreams of `achche din’ ahead of elections and people would teach them a lesson in the next Lok Sabha poll.
