Shree Nongthombam Lakshman Singh : Natyabhusan (Stage Drama) 2017
Shree Nongthombam Lakshman Singh was born on September 14, 1936 at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Imphal.
Born to Nongthombam Kanhai Singh and Nongthombam Ongbi Tonshija, Lakshman Singh took keen interest in the field of drama and began taking part in types of Goura Lila and Nupa Pala (group of men indulging in singing hymns or act plays) from the age of 9.
In the year 1987, after watching Narmedh Yagya and Savitri Satyaban under the direction of Nongmaithem Thanin at Rangashree, Kongba, Laksman's interest in drama took more hold of him.
Nongthombam Lakshman Singh worked under the famous playwright GC Tongbra at Society Theatre for some time, and then, jumped to Rupmahal Theatre in 1957.
He learned drama acting from many famous gurus like Hawaibam Nilamani, Meitram Bira, and Laishram Netrajit. Nongthombam Lakshman Singh is also a singer.
And he studied music under famous gurus of music like Laishram Gourahari, Wahengbam Selungba, Laishram Ibopishak(Matam eshei); Japantonu, Bagenda Sharma, Soigaijam Ibomcha(Manoharsai); and Nat Sankritan from Thokchom Ibomcha respectively.
Nongthombam Lakshman Singh acted in various roles in more than 100 dramas of Rupmahal Theatre.
People appreciate him more of a comedian than other roles.

He is an approved artist of All India Radio Imphal.
More than this, Lakshman Singh took the role of Hanuman in renowned guru Hanjabam Nandakishore's popular drama "Ram Lila".
For his immense contribution, Rupmahal Theatre conferred him Avinandan Patra 2005, Certificate of Honour 2018, Ningombam Angouton Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award 2018, Meitram Bira Award 2015 by Rupmahal Theatre.
In recognition of his contribution to Manipuri Theatre (Stage Drama), Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal awarded him the Natyabhusan(Stage Drama) title on its 82nd annual conference.
