An elderly couple of Sundargarh district, who had gone to Belgaon in Karnataka to receive their deceased son’s insurance money, has reportedly gone missing.
The missing persons have been identified as Jugeswar Majhi and his wife Rukmuni Majhi of Deobhubanpur Kaudipada under the Kinjrikela police limits in Sundargarh district.
The matter came to the fore after the couple’s younger son Atish lodged a complaint at the Kinjrikela police station seeking support. He left for Belgaon on Friday night.
According to sources, Jugeswar and Rukmuni’s elder son Nabab Majhi(24) had gone to Belgaon in 2011 to work in a private company. Later, Nabab died in an accident. The company had sent the body to Deobhubanpur and informed the parents that the company would claim insurance against Nabab’s untimely death.
Recently, a company official told Jugeswar to receive the insurance money from the comapny. On February 2, Jugeswar and Rukmuni went to Belgaon by train.
After repeated trials, Atish could talk to his father only on February 7. Jugeswar reportedly told him that five-to-six miscreants beat them and snatched away insurance cheque and all money from them at Belgaon when they were going to catch train to return home. However, Atish could not contact them thereafter.
On his complaint, the Kinjrikela police are now trying t locate the couple, whose mobile signals switched off.
Atish too met Sundargarh SP Pinaj Mishra before he left for Belgaon.
The SP have directed Kinjrikela police station OIC B Bag to take immediate steps for locating the missing couple.
“We have also told complainant to be in touch with us since he has gone to trace his parents and, if required, we will send a police team there to locate the missing couple,” Mishra said.
