Vijay Hazare Trophy: Shubman Gill's sensational ton helps Punjab clinch thriller against Karnataka

Under-19 World Cup star Shubman Gill hit eight fours and six sixers in his 122-ball innings and put on 125 runs for the second wicket with Mandeep Singh (64).

Alur: A superb ton by Test batsman KL Rahul (107) went in vain as Karnataka went down by four runs to Punjab in a Vijay Hazare Trophy Group 'A' league on Sunday.

Earlier, Punjab, riding on under-19 World Cup star Shubman Gill's brilliant unbeaten knock of 123 made 269 for 3 in 42 overs in a game reduced after a delayed start owing to a wet outfield.

The right-hander hit eight fours and six sixers in his 122-ball innings and put on 125 runs for the second wicket with Mandeep Singh (64).

In reply, the home side looked in control as long the stylish Rahul was at the crease.

He was also involved in an even 100-run partnership with Pavan Deshpande (53).

However, the exit of Deshpande pegged Karnataka back.

Rahul fell with 21 runs to go but skipper Vinay Kumar's 26 couldn't take the team over the line.

Karnataka continues to top the table with 10 points from four games, while Railways, Punjab, Odisha and Baroda have eight points each.

Railways, Odisha and Baroda have played three games while Karnataka and Punjab have played four matches each.

In other matches, Odisha thrashed Assam by nine wickets as Rajesh Dhuper (70 not out) and skipper Govinda Poddar (50 not out) reached the target of 137 in 25.4 overs and Railways posted a 51-run win thanks to an solid batting effort by the top-order.

Railways 272 for 7 in 50 overs (Mrunal Devdhar 68, Saurabh Wakaskar 58, Arindam Ghosh 55, H V Patel 3 for 62) beat Haryana 221 all out in 45.1 overs (C K Bishnoi 79, RP Sharma 50, Ankit Yadav 4 for 36).

Ton-up Ravindra Jadeja keeps Saurahstra in hunt for quarter-final berth

Hyderabad: India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja returned to form with an unbeaten century and steered Saurashtra to a four-wicket win over Jharkhand.

Batting at number four, Jadeja smashed a 116-ball 113 not out, inclusive of seven fours and four sixes, as Saurashtra knocked off Jharkhand's 330-run target with 10 balls to spare.

Captain Cheteshwar Pujara also returned among runs (44 from 54 balls; 6x4) in a 73-run partnership with Jadeja at the Gymkhana Ground in Secunderabad.

The left-hander also shared 114 runs with Chirag Jani (59) and played the finisher's role to perfection, taking them past the line in 48.2 overs, as Saurashtra returned to winning ways and remained in the hunt for a quarterfinal berth.

A splendid all-round show by Vishal Kushwah helped Chhattisgarh halt Ranji champions Vidarbha's four-match winning streak with a stunning 45-run victory at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here.

Vidarbha remained on top with 16 points from five matches but the win lifted Chhattisgarh (12) to second place, going past Hyderabad (12) on net run rate in the group D table.

Saurashtra (eight) jumped to fourth place with eight points from four matches.

Batting at number seven, Kushwah hammered a 36-ball 61, studded with five sixes and four boundaries, to propel Chhattisgarh to a challenging 284 for eight after they elected to bat.

Kushwah went on to become the wrecker-in-chief, returning figures of 4/54 with his medium pace bowling, as Vidarbha collapsed to 239 in 46.1 overs.

Kushwah dismissed Ganesh Satish (25) before removing Ravi Jangid (four) and Apoorv Wankhade (0) in five balls to derail their chase.

In the 26th over, Kushwah got his fourth victim in captain Faiz Fazal, who got out for 53 as Vidarbha were left tottering for 125/6.

Akshay Karnewar kept Vidarbha in the hunt with a 64-ball 60 (3x4, 3x6) but his valiant effort went in vain, with Shahnawaz Hussain (3/41) wrapping up the issue in 46.1 overs.

Earlier, captain Amandeep Khare was Chhattisgarh's top scorer with a 57-ball 65 (7x4, 2x6) as he steered their middle order after a mini collapse.

At Gymkhana Ground, Secunderabad: Jharkhand 329/9; 50 overs (Ishan Kishan 93, Sumit Kumar 64) lost to Saurashtra 333/6; 48.2 overs (Ravindra Jadeja 113 not out, Chirag Jani 59) by four wickets.

Rajat Patidar blitzkrieg helps Madhya Pradesh beat Goa; Andhra hands Tamil Nadu another defeat

Chennai: Rajat Patidar continued his strong form, hammering an unbeaten 124 off 85 balls to power Madhya Pradesh to a crushing eight-wicket win over Goa today with 24.2 overs to spare.

Andhra, meanwhile, piled more misery on defending champions Tamil Nadu, posting a 29-run win. It was the host's fourth straight loss in the tournament.

Chasing a modest 221 for victory, Patidar seemed to carry on from where he left against Tamil Nadu (in which he scored 158) and toyed with the Goa attack at the M A Chidambaram stadium, hitting 13 fours and hoisting seven sixers.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Naman Ojha had set the tempo for MP with a quickfire 50 (26 balls, 4X4, 4X6) in an opening stand of 81 to put the team on road to victory.

Earlier, Goa couldn't capitalise on Swapnil Asnodkar's strokeful knock of 85 (96 balls, 10X4, 1X6) and collapsed to 220 all out in 48.3 overs from 133 for 2.

Sohraab Dhaliwal and Anshul Tripathi took three wickets each for MP.

In the Andhra-Tamil Nadu game, the former rode on half centuries from opener KS Bharat (82), B Sumanth (62 not out) and Ricky Bhui (52) to post a competitive 276 for 6 in 50 overs.

In reply, Tamil Nadu could only muster 247 in 48.5 overs with only J Kousik (56) getting a half-century.

In another match, Gujarat thumped Team Rajasthan by seven wickets, romping to a win in 33.2 overs after bowling out its rival for 172 in 47.3 overs.

Priyank Panchal scored 55 before being run-out and guided the chase after skipper Parthiv Patel, who returned to the side after missing the first three matches, fell for a duck.
