VASCO: Sikkim legislators have expressed willingness to establish cultural ties between Goa and their state as they witnessed various cultural and entertainment events staged on the first day of Carnival celebration in Vasco, organised by the Vasco Carnival committee.
Three Sikkim legislators, including Pintso Chopel representing Sikkim constituency, Shyam Pardhan representing Arithang constituency and T W Basnet of Tadong constituency, were invited by the Carnival committee for the celebration in Vasco.
Vasco MLA and KTCL chairman Carlos Almeida, who is also the president of Vasco committee, Mormugao municipal councillors Fredrick Henriques, Lavina D’Souza were present among others on the dais.
The Sikkim legislators appreciated the Goan culture showcased on the occasion of Carnival celebration.
They expressed desire to invite the Goan artistes to perform in Sikkim. They also expressed keenness to exchange art, culture and folklores with the state.
The first day of Carnival celebration in Vasco saw fancy dress competition, ‘Oluv’ live and dance showdown.
The grand King Momo and Queen Momo float parade will be held in Vasco on February 12, starting from St Andrews Church Square at 3.30 pm, followed by Young Perry live, Lawry Travasso and four upcoming Goan singers performing live with N Cardozo, Elvis Goes live in concert with ‘Black in White’ and ‘Kepemchim Kirnnam’.
The VCC has decided to felicitate the team Dance Illusion who took part in Mumbai Championship, bringing laurels to the state on February 12.
Elaborate arrangements have been made for the traffic movement in Vasco during the float parade. The Swatantra Path will be closed for all sorts of vehicular traffic from 12 p.m.
The heavy vehicular traffic will not be allowed through the town during the float parade. The F L Gomes road will be open for traffic movement.
The parking of vehicles (two and four wheelers) will be allowed at the open space next to Hotel Taniya at Maimollem and other internal lanes between Swatantra Path and F L Gomes road.
On February 13, Goan nightingale Lorna will be performing live at 7.30 pm, followed by musical performance by Ester Noronha and Young Perry, special dance performance by Vasco’s Top Dance Academy.
