Check Out The Latest Spy Shots Of The 2020 Cadillac CT5

We just got our hands on another set of spy shots of the 2020 Cadillac CT5, and it looks like things are progressing nicely for the automaker’s upcoming midsize sedan.

Last summer, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen confirmed that the automaker would be killing some of its sedans and replacing them with the new CT5. Models like the ATS, CTS and XTS would come to an end, paving the way forward for a new midsize offering.

There’s not much to go off from the pictures, as the vehicle is heavily disguised. According to our photographers, it is smaller than a BMW 5-Series, but larger than a 3-Series. The size of the sedan makes sense for Cadillac’s new lineup. The CT6, which is similarly sized to a 7-Series, will soldier on and the CT5 will become the brand’s way of trying to kill two birds with one stone.

The front of the sedan has some design cues that the vehicle shares with the Escala Concept from 2016. From the little that we can see, it looks like the CT5 has slim headlights that are a large departure from the current units on the CTS, ATS and CT6. The elongated hood has a prominent bulge with what appears to be a functional air scoop, while vertical daytime running lights sit on the bottom part of the front fascia.

Looking at the profile reveals a fastback-like roof, similar to the Kia Stinger or the Porsche Panamera. The taillight design at the back is noticeably interesting, as it looks like a strip of LED lights will connect the two taillight units at the rear. Two rectangular exhaust outlets are poking through the camouflage.

With its wide, hunkered-down loo, and the prominent hood bulge, it looks like Cadillac could be testing a high-performance variant of the CT5. While the base engine in the sedan is expected to be a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder motor, the V model should have a more potent powertrain. Rear-wheel drive will be standard on the sedan, while all-wheel drive will be available as an option.

While the majority of Cadillac’s sedan lineup will disappear, if the automaker delivers a sedan that looks anything like the Escala Concept and is priced like a 3-Series, it should be a hit.

    This looks like a whole new redesign. I originally thought that this would be a just a face lift.

      Looks-wise, I still fear this will still not be the American answer to any of the cars in this category. Not even the new twins from Hyundai either. I doubt it will truly be a de-Cadillac’d sports sedan. It’s still going to appeal to that certain customer (who that is anymore is a mystery) and not a male, 35-55 who normally would go to BMW or Audi. Mercedes may be closer to this because I personally feel Mercedes designs are on the feminine side.

        I see your point and I understand your concerns. Because to be honest, Cadillac has slapped you and I in the face many of times with beautiful concepts lading with false promises.

        I understand your fear, but I do think that Cadillac is on to something with this CT5. I’m looking at the wheel base and believe that it will be a little bit bigger than the Stinger. And I can live with that. I’m okay with their decision. But again, maybe I’m just a fool for thinking that.

    I still believe this will finally be something different in terms of design from Cadillac, and I can’t wait to see it without that camo!

      Looks pretty standard ‘Cadillac’ angular to me. They’re a bit like Audi in the sense they have found it hard to evolve a design philosophy from the early 2000’s.

    So it won’t compete directly with the 3 or 5 series, probably about the same size as the CTS. That never really worked for the CTS. They’re replacing three different size sedans with a single one, same old Cadillac, still doesn’t get it. Hopefully it won’t have the hideous fingerprint magnet piano black trim on the interior.
    Maybe one of these day’s they’ll actually build some of the beautiful concept cars that they’ve shown in the past. That will get people in showrooms.

      If sedans are falling out of favor it may just work. It covers a few areas and if it turns out to be a hatchback it will cover more areas than separate models imo

      Except no one is buying sedans anymore, so one good one is what you need.

      Sat in a BMW 3/ 4 series lately? Not that nice at all. 5 is slightly better but costly. Have a feeling thid Cadillac will do well, especially since Cadillac’s beat BMWs in performance at the same price.

      No. It’s gonna be a direct rival of the 3 series. This is a d class car. From price,to interior dimensions. The problem is journalists don’t know *hit about it. Ct6 will be slightly reduced in its next generation to fit in the e class. Also there will be cars above the ct6.

    My first impression of this heavily camouflaged Cadillac sedan is how much smaller in comparison to the CTS. I cannot liberate complete judgement on this vehicle until it is fully revealed to the world, but Cadillac mission is quite confusing to me because the XTS doesn’t represent what Cadillac is after, but a versatile, luxury, boulevard cruiser while the CTS Vsport, as well as the well initially V series are what Cadillac is and after — sport. The same with Cadillac’s XT5 being a front-wheel drive retiree dream and first-ever to make it to its platform just to be followed by a GMC Acadia. GM and its parts bin sharing will never become obsolete— never.

    You guys got duped–kinda. You saw right past the decoy to the fact that this is a Caddy. Cadillac was trying to make you think this was the next Dodge Charger. Hence the fake hood scoop, fake front door vent/contour thing, and a literal duplicate of a Dodge lightbar left exposed in the back. You can see where the actual taillights will be by the placement of the functional lights sticking through the camo. They will be vertical units at the corners, though what shape is not possible to tell.

    Seems ok so far but hard to tell with all the camo. Obviously the Pep Boys hood scoop ain’t happening on a Caddy.

    In light of the CUV craze, perhaps Cadillac is ahead of the curve with a pared down sedan offering;maybe not.

    Germans are building sedans of every size… Mercedes S,E,C,CLA classes; BMW:7,5,3,M2 series, Audi A8,6,4,3. Germans must’ve got ahold of some surplus cheap steel supply contracts and need to use up the supplies by making multiple models.

    Rumor has it that Lexus will kill off the GS and who knows what becomes of the IS. ES and LS seem to anchor the sedan offerings.

    Thing of concern is whether CUVs become the norm and sedans are niche models.

    I’m sure the bones will be there, but I don’t have high hopes at all that it will look like something a male 35-55 will want to personally own. It will still appeal to a demographic spread out too thin.

    Will the CT5 have a lift-back like the Escala concept. That does seem to be the new trend.
