New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday recalled Hindutva icon Deendayal Upadhyay's service to the marginalised on his death anniversary, saying his work continues to inspire people.

Upadhyay was one of the top leaders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the forerunner of the present-day Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He had propounded the theory of "Antyodaya", or uplifting the last person in the queue. Born on 25 September, 1916, he died suddenly on 11 February, 1968.
