Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs kept their unbeaten run going as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.

Steve Komphela's side had gone seven games undefeated in the Premiership prior to the cup-tie, which remained goalless at the break with both goalkeepers required to make saves in the first half.

Arrows couldn't match Chiefs in the second half, however, and conceded the opener to Ryan Moon seven minutes after the restart before two late goals from Bernard Parker and Joseph Malongoane ended their journey at the first hurdle.

Chiefs saw plenty of the ball in Jo'burg as Abafana Bes'thende looked to adopt a counter-attacking approach.

The first chance fell to Willard Katsande on eight minutes when a corner bounced across the face of goal, but the Zimbabwean couldn't direct his header on target beyond the back post.

Maximilian Mbaeva was called into action for the first time three minutes later, although Siphelele Ntshangase's deflected shot from just outside the box saw the keeper make a comfortable save.

Siboniso Conco had a sniff at goal for the visitors soon afterwards when a long ball forward dropped into his path, but the striker dragged his shot wide of the right post from 19 yards out.

Leonardo Castro went close on 14 minutes with a long-range strike that was parried away by Mbaeva, after the Colombian went past two players with a neat bit of skill to fashion space for himself.

Kudakwashe Mahachi wasted a good opportunity to put Arrows in front a minute later as he raced onto Conco's flick down the right channel and advanced into the area before lifting the ball over Itumeleng Khune and wide of the near post.

The action in front of goal dried up somewhat, but Clinton Larsen's men finished the half strongly as Velemseni Ndwandwe brought a promising move to an end with a tame shot from distance that was easily dealt with by Khune, who pulled off a fine one-handed save to deny the midfielder from outside the box once more on 39 minutes.

The hosts made a flying start to the second half and broke the deadlock just seven minutes in. Katsande surged away on the counter and his delivery into the six-yard box was converted by Moon.

The KZN outfit offered very little in attack after the break as much of the battle took place in the middle of the park, where Chiefs came out on top.

Arrows appealed for a penalty 10 minutes from time when Romario Dlamini's header struck Daniel Cardoso on the hand inside the box from a free-kick, but the referee waved play on.

The Glamour Boys went up the other end and doubled their lead, with substitute Parker running onto a long kick upfield from Khune and flicking the ball past Mbaeva to slot home from eight yards out.

Yusuf Jappie forced Khune into another superb one-handed save moments later with a swerving strike from 19 yards out, but Malongoane sealed the win for Amakhosi on 84 minutes as he side-footed the ball into the bottom-right corner of the net after Moon's deflected shot fell for him at the back post.

Moon and Malongoane wasted further chances to put some gloss on the scoreline late on as both players failed to hit the target in promising positions inside the area.
