R Balki directorial PadMan, starring Akshay Kumar, continues to impress the audience at the box office. The film, which revolves around menstrual health and the need for cheaper and accessible sanitary napkin, has managed to earn a total of Rs 40.05 crore at the box office by the end of its opening weekend.
The film had opened with Rs 10.26 crore and picked up pace on Saturday with a growth of almost 35% making its second-day collection – Rs 13.68 crore. On Sunday, the film managed to earn Rs 16.11 crore. Now, it is to be seen if the film manages to cruise through the week and stay strong in its first week. However, with the release of Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary next week, the business of the film might slow down.
In her review of PadMan, The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Akshay Kumar is now consistently green-lighting socially-relevant films, and that is fine and laudable (Pad Man is produced by his wife Twinkle Khanna, a witty commentator on social mores). His 2017 Toilet: Ek Prem Katha started conversations around having toilets within the house. I liked both what it was trying to say and how it was doing so: it was done with a degree of flair.”
Here are the box office figures of PadMan:
PadMan fri : ₹10.26 cr, sat : ₹13.68 cr, sun : ₹16.11 cr (Total: Rs 40.05 crore)
On the other hand, while PadMan was a solo release, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat remains to be a major threat to the film at the theatres.
