Minister for Education C. Ravindranath has said that communalisation of the education sector is the continuation of its commercialisation.
Delivering the inaugural address at the educational and cultural meet organised in connection with the State meeting of the Kerala School Teachers’ Association here on Saturday, Mr. Ravindranath said that communalisation was being used to hide the ills of commercialisation. The only solution to overcome this was developing general education rooted in secularism.
He urged teachers to strive towards developing the education sector so that Kerala would be cited as an alternative to an education model based on commercialisation and communalisation. Even the proponents of neo-liberalism have begun to admit that it had led to more inequality.
Mr. Ravindranath said that the strategy behind communalism was exploitation to share the spoils of capitalism. This is evident in all issues around the world. The present education model was designed with the aim of developing minds with an affinity to vested interests. This should be countered by using education to create secular minds, he said.
