(MENAFN) The resolution made by the French government to disregard plans of establishing a new airport has called for a celebration.

Thousands of farmers, environmentalists, and activists have gathered to celebrate the victory on Saturday as they let fire flames burn a representative enormous wooden plane in a field in Notre-Dame-des-Landes.

The location of the airport construction was planned to take place in the village near the western city of Nantes

The protest against the project also included people from different parts of France who made an optimistic goal of making the land "a space of social, environmental and agricultural experimentation", as they blocked the area and camped out for years.
