Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal inspected the under-construction Rani Jhansi grade Separator, an ambitious flyover project in north Delhi and directed the officials to make use of all the resources to commission the project at the earliest.

The flyover, from near St Stephen’s Hospital to Filmistaan Cinema once completed would be open for vehicular movement towards the Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, Gulabi Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Sadar Bazar, Paharganj, Azad Market and surrounding areas. Baijal accompanied by senior officials of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Northern Railways.

Officials informed L-G that all efforts are being made to commission the project at the earliest as all acquisitions, litigations have come to a conclusive end. “Bottlenecks” have also been duly addressed, they apprised.  “Over 90 per cent of work has been completed,” a release by NMC stated.

The 1.6-km-long flyover was conceived in 1998 but was commissioned by the erstwhile Municipal Corporation in 2006. The construction work started in 2007 and has been in the pipeline since then. The continuous deadline breach has escalated the project cost by Rs 547 crore over the originally sanctioned one.

The cost originally was pegged at Rs 177 crore that further increased to Rs 724 crore.
