A Knox County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested early Thursday on a charge of assaulting a woman, court records show.

Deputy Travis Scates, 26, who worked in the patrol division, has been suspended without pay pending the completion of the investigation, according to KCSO spokeswoman Martha Dooley.

KCSO deputies responded about 12:25 a.m. Thursday to an apartment on Lanesborough Way in Farragut.

The victim told a detective that when she went to leave the apartment for the night, Scates grabbed her arm and made her drop the clothes she was holding, according to a KCSO incident report.

The woman told the detective that Scates "had her up against the wall, but when she got by (Scates) he let her leave" the apartment, the report reads.

The victim had bruises on her left arm, according to the report.

Scates was charged with domestic assault. His arraignment is set for Thursday morning.

Further information was not immediately available Sunday.
